Jitiya fast is observed on the Ashwin month's Astami date of Krishna paksha of Ashwin month. This year jivitputrika fast is being observed on 25 September 2024. Jitiya fast is mainly observed in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand. On this day women observe nirjala vrat for their children’s long life, and good health. This fast starts from Nahai Khay and continues till Saptami, Ashtami, and Navami. During this time, the story of Jitiya fast must be read or heard in the puja. What is the story of Jitiya Vrat?
The story of Jitiya Vrat is related to the Mahabharat period. According to the religious stories, Aswatthma sneaked into the Pandavas camp to avenge his father's death in Mahabharat. Aswatthma thought he was killing the Pandavas but actually, he killed the five sons of Draupadi and he also tried to kill the unborn child which was in the womb of Uttara wife of Abhimanyu. But lord krishna revived the child and they named him jivitputrika because he came back to life after dying in the womb.

Before breaking the Vrat, workshop to the lord Surya and also offer Arghya. After that, you should meditate on lord jimutvahan and then, consume food and water.
