New Delhi: In addition to fostering business growth, India is experiencing a rapid expansion of employment opportunities. In an address to the beneficiaries of the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal emphasized the nation's commitment to promoting Brand India through the production of high-quality goods, alongside its economic development endeavours. The PLI scheme has demonstrated remarkable efficacy in this regard, driving substantial production escalation across various sectors nationwide and concurrently generating a substantial number of employment opportunities.
During a gathering at the Ministry of Commerce, attended by CEOs and officials from 140 companies benefiting from the scheme across 1,300 manufacturing units representing 14 sectors, Minister Goyal underscored India's emergence as a global leader in the manufacturing domain. The beneficiaries shared firsthand accounts of how the scheme facilitated the establishment of their businesses and offered constructive feedback for further enhancement. Minister Goyal reiterated that the scheme plays a pivotal role in advancing manufacturing in 14 sectors, enabling India to deliver high-calibre products.
Mr Goyal said after the meeting that stated that our initial estimation projected an investment of approximately 1.46 trillion rupees across 14 sectors. We now anticipate that, through the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, an investment exceeding 2 trillion rupees could materialize. Earlier projections indicated the creation of approximately 8.5 lakh jobs under the PLI scheme. However, considering the latest data, it is reasonable to anticipate the creation of around 12 lakh jobs. Notably, production and sales have surpassed the 12 trillion rupee mark. Furthermore, our exports have exceeded the four trillion rupees milestone in the electronics, pharmaceutical, and food processing sectors.
He mentioned that we were expecting to see an additional production of about Rs 11 lakh crore. However, after hearing some figures today, I believe that the production for both domestic demand and export will exceed our expectations. The minister stated that the units in these areas are performing well and are now in a position to invest even without much support, as demand has started to rise. During the meeting, the firms provided their suggestions, including some amendments in government procurement, which Goyal asked the officials to consider.
