Sarvapitre Amavasya: Sarvapitre Amavasya falls on Wednesday, October 2. On this day, many people perform tarpan to honour their ancestors. This day is significant as it marks the most important Amavasya of the year. The act of tarpan for ancestors is considered highly important. By visiting a pilgrimage site and performing pinddaan and tarpan for one's ancestors on this day, their souls find peace. Pinddaan helps ancestors who are wandering in the form of air to take physical form. If a person's horoscope has Kalsarp Dosh, Pitra Dosh, or any other dosha, or if there is stagnation in the family, discord in the household, or continuous business losses, performing pinddaan for ancestors on this day can provide relief from these problems.
Astrologer Kavita Jangid, in an interview with Local 18, explicated that performing Pind Daan on Amavasya results in the ancestors being symbolically provided with a body in the form of a Pind. Additionally, offering Pind Tarpan is believed to alleviate the hunger and thirst of the ancestors. This ritual is purported to offer relief to individuals afflicted with various astrological afflictions such as Kalsarp Dosh, and Pitra Dosh, as well as those experiencing challenges related to family expansion, domestic discord, and business setbacks.
Pushkar Raj is the king of pilgrimages
Pushkar Raj is considered the preeminent pilgrimage site, where Kavita Jangid advises performing Pinddaan Tarpan on Amavasya. It is believed that by performing Pinddaan at Pushkar Raj on Amavasya, one can attract the blessings of all pilgrimage sites, which collectively visit Pushkar Raj annually. The ritual of Pinddaan, honouring both known and unknown ancestors, is customarily conducted at Pushkar. Additionally, in Kota, Pinddaan Tarpan can also be performed along the banks of the Chambal River.
How to serve food?
In various Puranas, including the Garuda Purana, it is stated that performing Shraddha for ancestors brings peace to their souls. When performing Tarpan and Shraddha for ancestors on Sarvapitre Amavasya, it is important to adhere to specific guidelines regarding the food served during the ritual. Notably, during Pitru Paksha, Shraddha food should not be served on banana leaves, as this is considered inappropriate. Instead, it is customary to serve the food in silver, bronze, or copper utensils. Additionally, using leaf plates for serving food is considered auspicious during this ritual.
