Jammu Chunav Result 2024: In the Jammu and Kashmir elections, the Congress-National Conference (NC) alliance has secured half of the seats in the first elections held in 10 years. The alliance currently has more than 49 seats, while the BJP has won more than 29 seats thus far. The vote counting commenced at 8 am under heavy security arrangements. The BJP may be at risk of facing defeat in this context. Nevertheless, the BJP still finds cause for optimism.
The BJP received a higher percentage of votes than the Congress-NC alliance, with 25.66 percent compared to the National Conference's 23.44 percent. The Congress received 11.95 percent of the votes. In this context, the BJP has a reason to be pleased.
After a 10-year gap, assembly elections were held for 90 assembly constituencies in three phases: on 18 September, 25 September, and 1 October. These elections marked the first time elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir after the abolition of Article 370 in August 2019, which led to the division of the erstwhile state into the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
According to the Election Commission of India, 63.88 percent of eligible voters participated in the three-phase elections. The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and the Congress have reached an agreement to jointly contest the 2024 assembly elections. Conversely, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chose to pursue separate campaigns. The alliance between the PDP and BJP in Jammu and Kashmir disintegrated in June 2018, precipitated by the BJP's withdrawal of support from the PDP led by Mehbooba Mufti. After this separation, President Ram Nath Kovind invoked the Governor's rule in the region.
