Arvind Kejriwal Resignation: Before Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal resigned, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bhardwaj said on Tuesday (September 17) that the chair belongs to Kejriwal. Speaking to the media, Bhardwaj also said that a member of his party will sit on the chair till the next elections in Delhi. Aam Aadmi Party will announce the name of the new Chief Minister of Delhi in place of Arvind Kejriwal after the meeting of the legislative party today i.e. Tuesday at noon.
Kejriwal had announced his decision to resign from the post of Chief Minister on Sunday. He had said that he would sit on the Chief Minister's chair only when the people gave him a certificate of honesty. A party official said, “The name of the new Chief Minister will be announced today at noon after the meeting of the legislative party.”
Earlier, Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “...it does not matter who sits on the chief minister's chair because the mandate is for Arvind Kejriwal. The public has chosen Arvind Kejriwal. He has said that he will not sit on the chief minister's chair until the public elects him again... One of us will sit on that chair till the elections are held.”
Saurabh Bharadwaj further said, "It will be like Bharat ruled in the absence of Lord Rama (in Ramayana). There will be a discussion with the MLAs today and the name may be finalized." Kejriwal is expected to resign on Tuesday. In such a situation, AAP MLAs will hold a crucial meeting at his residence to choose his successor.
Kejriwal is also likely to meet Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena at 4.30 pm and submit his resignation. After being released from Tihar jail on bail in the excise policy case, the AAP national convener on Sunday said he would resign within 48 hours and demanded early elections in Delhi.
